Service Description: Nitrate Vulnerable Zones as designated under the Nitrates Directive shown with related optional information from other European datasets.
Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) are designated by the EU Member States (MS) as a part of the implementation of the Nitrates Directive (NiD), Art. 3. NVZ are areas of land that drain into polluted waters or waters at risk of pollution if no action is taken. Some MS have adopted a whole territory approach (WTA) where their action programme applies for the whole national territory which does not necessary mean that the whole territory is at risk of pollution. The maps refer to reports for the period 2004-2007 with subsequent changes as notified by Member States in electronic format.
